Kindergarten Explores Frederick by Leo Lionni

This week in Kindergarten, our students stepped into the magical world of Frederick by Leo Lionni — a timeless story that reminds us how imagination, color, and creativity can warm even the coldest days. Just as Frederick gathered words and colors to brighten the long winter, our students discovered how color can bring joy, beauty, and inspiration to everyday life.

Bringing the Story to Life

🎨 To make the lesson come alive, students created their very own sun catchers using the primary colors. They were delighted to watch how light danced through their creations, blending colors together in surprising and beautiful ways.

🧪 Next came an exciting hands-on science experiment with shaving cream and food coloring. As the colors swirled and mixed, students learned how simple materials can be transformed into something magical with a little imagination.

Lessons Learned

Through story, art, and science, our Kindergarteners are learning that:

  • Creativity is a gift that can brighten even the darkest season.
  • Colors are not only fun but also powerful symbols of joy and hope.
  • Imagination helps us see the world in new and beautiful ways.

A Foundation for Lifelong Learning

At Canterbury Christian School, we believe that literature, art, and science weave together to inspire wonder and deepen understanding. By connecting stories like Frederick with creative projects and experiments, we’re helping our students grow into thoughtful, imaginative learners who see the beauty in God’s world all around them.
